چکیده

The structure of the southwestern branch Alpine orogen is affected by extensive Late Triassic evaporites. These evaporites have been involved in polyphased salt tectonics since early Liassic, coeval with Tethyan rifting, and are décollement level for thrusts external parts during orogeny. role this arc re-evaluated order to determine relative importance deformation related motion respect main compressional events. This paper focuses on one identified as diapiric 1930’s: Astoin diapir (Goguel, 1939). Analysis geological maps together new field work allowed better define diapirism Upper outcrops around Astoin. Study surrounding depocenters reveals a major involvement structuration area, Liassic. Several ridges linked structure, explaining why we call it “diapiric complex” Salt was initiated Liassic few locations show evidence reactive whereas others passive seen. Passive continued post-rift stage margin history Jurassic Cretaceous when an allochthonous sheet emplaced. Diapirism also occurred Oligocene while foreland basin developing part European Alps. Serial interpretative cross-sections drawn illustrate lateral variations structural style. Sequential evolutions each cross-section proposed reconstruct complex evolution through time. shows framework important along-strike variation activity. Most geometries inherited from that extension, some places these structures overprinted structures.

Relative timing of calcite twinning strain and fold-thrust belt development; Hudson Valley fold-thrust belt, New York, U.S.A

Coarse-grained limestone samples were collected across the Hudson Valley Fold-Thrust Belt with the aim of determining the temporal and spatial relationship between calcite twinning strain and fold-thrust belt development. The majority of the samples have well defined oblate strain ellipsoids with the maximum shortening axes (e3) perpendicular to bedding strike, and e3 magnitudes that range from...

Collapse structures in Dowgonbadan region, Zagros fold- thrust belt

Allochthonous masses are common structures in Zagros fold-thrust belt. They are generally considered as collapse structures formed by the influence of gravity and in rock units with competency contrast. However, large allochthonous masses mapped in Dowgonbadan area in Dezful Embayment near the Mountain Front Fault (MFF) of Zagros show characteristics different from the belt common collapse stru...

Growth and erosion of fold-and-thrust belts with an application to the Aconcagua fold-and-thrust belt, Argentina

[1] The development of topography within and erosional removal of material from an orogen exerts a primary control on its structure. We develop a model that describes the temporal development of a frontally accreting, critically growing Coulomb wedge whose topography is largely limited by bedrock fluvial incision. We present general results for arbitrary initial critical wedge geometries and in...

Kinematics of the Dena Fault and Its Relation to Deep-Seated Transverse Faults in Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt, Iran

The NNW-trending Dena Fault, with 140 km length, cuts the major structures of Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt in Borujen region. The fault has divided the region in two zones, in which different structural, andmorphological features as well assedimentation and seismtectonic characteristics have developed. This study presents a new interpretation for the kinematics of Dena Fault based on field evidence....
